A helping hand...

Yeah! IT'S FRIDAY! My family is all home for the day because of the impending snow storm...or that's what they are saying anyway...we'll see! So anyway, I was watching the news last night and of course the coverage of Haiti is still everywhere...and just read about a girl who was rescued after 15 days in the rubble...Dr.'s said they didn't understand, it was "medically impossible". I know of course that it was a miracle from God and I hope others recognize that too! So how to help??? Well here are a few items from Etsy, where the proceeds will go to Haiti recovery...so go on over and check them out! MONDAYS!!!

Mondays, what can I say...it is cold and dreary here!!! We had a crazy weekend....we arrived home from church yesterday to find huge sections of shingles missing from our roof thanks to a wind advisory and rain(keep in mind our roof is only 9 years old)....upon entering the house we found three, yes three, leaks! So my dear husband spent the better part of the day outside in the pouring rain trying to repair the roof damage (thanks uncle Mike for your help)and I spent the
day inside trying to stop the leaks from doing major damage! Oh well, that's the way it goes! So here are some images that brighten up my day!
Come back tomorrow...I will be doing a give-away to celebrate a special day!!!
The chairs-don't know, Wall plaque with lettering - similar Pottery Barn, the sandwich-mine (Mozzarella, tomato, and pesto panini), dress-still don't know, but I'm trying to figure it out, zebra rug - Hudson Boston, Lamp - arteriors, wall art-Anthropologie, Bookcase-flickr

Random bits...

Happy Thursday! It is gloomy here and I am feeling a bit under the weather...have been for most of the week! Anyway, I want to say a big ol' "thank you" to Smitten Design for giving me this award... I loved reading all her random facts, you should definitely check out her blog! So here are the rules...have to list 7 Random facts about myself and then pass it along to 3 others! So here goes:
  1. I wear a size 6 1/2 shoe...
  2. My favorite colors are really non-colors - black or white, depends on the day!
  3. I love to read books...
  4. My husband is a math teacher and coaches high school basketball...which makes for a really crazy schedule between October and March...
  5. I have a sister who is only 11 months and 2 weeks older than me - for 2 weeks out of the year (Jan.26 -my dbay and Feb 9.-her bday)we are technically the same age...
  6. I grew up in a small town
  7. I love to watch dancing with the stars (with my husband who says he should be a judge)

So now I must pick 3 lovely blogs to pass this award along:

Old traditions made new!

Over the last year I have felt a yearning to incorporate old traditions back into my life! Cooking and baking at home more, growing a garden (we did this at Papaw's house last year), learning the "canning" process again, sewing, etc....I guess a lot of what "homemaking" use to be! One tradition I love is quilting....no, I don't quilt,ha! But my 91 year old grandmother, Zenobia, has been quilting as long as I can remember! She doesn't quilt much anymore because at 91 it is difficult to do all that work with your hands - she did all hers by hand! I wish I had taken the time to learn this tradition from her! One of my favorite quilt makers is Denyse Schmidt. She has taken the tradition of quilting and really put a modern twist on it to make it completely new! I really love this "Hills & Hollers" quilt pattern...it is so cute and I think it could work well for a girl or boys room depending on the fabrics you use!

Tuesday inspiration...

It is Tuesday, but it feels like Monday to me...the holiday has thrown me off! So while I gather my senses and decide which direction to go...here is some Tuesday inspiration!
Love this dining room...the Louis Ghost Chairs and sheep skins are a great combination! Yes, an organized freezer is inspiring to me...call me crazy!
Love this cute summer dress, although I think I would need a couple more inches on the hem line or some leggings to go with it!
We (Liv and I) have been wrapping several birthday gifts for her friends this month...and these pompons are adorable!
and who doesn't want to be the queen of her house...I need one of these while I clean!!! Happy Tuesday!

a little sewing project...

Liv and I worked on a little sewing project today... mini sized aprons as a gift for several of her friends celebrating birthdays this month!
This was super easy...no pattern - I am not a pro seamstress, though I wish I was! A sewing class is definitely on my list for this year! Happy Friday to everyone!!! Have a great weekend!

I love progress!

I do love progress! Here is some of the progress I've made at my house over the last two weeks...
YES! We are official....we hit up the public library this week! I couldn't just get one library card either...each child had to have one of their own! We've already made it through most of our selections! Check one item of the 2010 LIST!!!
I cleaned out my refrigerator....I know that sounds very sad! But since Thanksgiving, I had given up my weekly "clean out" routine so that by the end of December...it was a real disaster! I should've taken before pics but I am just not that together!
Last, but not least...the playroom!!! Now I really should've taken before photos because it was disgraceful...you could not walk through it!!! So now...it's clean, organized, and the kids have been camped out in there quietly playing! The fridge and the playroom cleanup pushes me toward the second item on my list...getting a cleaning schedule setup...progress is good!

Workin on that 2010 List...

Okay, I meant to post on all the great things I did last week to further my progress on my 2010 List....but I have had a sick little girl at home! Fortunately she is now feeling much better! To make things even greater, we got a call to show our house tomorrow!!! I am so excited (please say some prayers) So, I have an agenda tomorrow....while our house is being "shown"...Liv and I are going to the PUBLIC LIBRARY...I picked up the applications last week and we are going to be official tomorrow - the kids are so fired up about having their OWN CARD!!!! Then I think we might go eat at Tomato Head, love that place! Happy Tuesday!

I'm dreaming...

With our house on the market...I'm dreaming of what our next home will be! Some people think we are crazy that we have our house on the market, but have no clue as to where we will go should it sell quickly - I simply say "the Lord will work it out!" I do mean that...of course I have a wish list of things I would love, but I am trusting that He will provide just what we need, when we need it!!! But in the mean time, it doesn't hurt to dream a little.... all images Domino magazine

I had something totally different....

I had prepared something totally different to post today...BUT, life got in the way! Instead of showing you all my progress made on my 2010 List for the week....I am going to post a run down of my day....

  • 6:30am Drag myself out of bed after a sleepless night, poor Liv coughed all night! Help B get ready for school
  • 7:10 Sit down with a cup of coffee, bible study, and a notepad...best part of my day!
  • 7:30 Olivia is up, we eat breakfast, get showered and we are getting ready to head to a doctors appointment for her...poor girl, she's been sick since Sunday :(
  • 8:45 On the road
  • 9:10 Dr's office
  • 9:20 Dr's office
  • 9:45 Dr's office
  • 10:00 Dr's office
  • 10:00 Decide to treat ourselves to a cupcake and cinnamon roll at Sweet Celebrations and get a phone call that B is getting out of school at 1pm...so convenient for them...not so much for me!
  • 10:15 Drop off prescriptions at pharmacy - we have 2 to fill because she is really sick!
  • 10:20 Make a deposit at the bank
  • 10:30 Grocery store - long overdue! But necessary!
  • 11:30 In the car heading to the house, Liv has to pee, really bad! A total meltdown begins bc she wants to go back in the store to pee...not home to pee! I don't give in...now I am risking that she will pee in the car seat just to teach me a lesson...no joking, she has totally done that!
  • 11:45 Make it home...rush into the house...guess what? "mom, I don't really need to pee anymore" Proceed to unload my groceries, have a quick sandwich...then we are back in the car to go get B
  • 1:00 Pick up B from school
  • 1:10 Go by pharmacy to pick up prescriptions that we dropped off THIS MORNING...go through drivethru because it is now snowing and I have two kids in tow....proceed to wait for 30 minutes for the person in front of me to drop off and pick up at the same time!!! Yeah , I know!
  • 1:40 Pull up....they give me only 1 prescription and tell me the other is back ordered....with a smile! That's interesting, can I put my daugther's cold on hold until this "back order" comes in? Uh, no....so "do you have another pharmacy that can fill it?" Well, "no, but we can call Blount Discount and they should be able to fill it"... So off I go...
  • 1:50 Pull into Blount Discount...."yes, I am picking up a prescription that CVS called in for my daughter"..."what, they didn't call"......I AM GOING TO LOOSE MY MIND!!! AN HOUR IN THE CAR WITH THE KIDS!
  • 2: 25 HOME SWEET HOME!!!!

Yes, we finally made it! Although it has been a nonstop day of what seems like "nothingness and busyness" all at once...I am grateful for a few answered prayers today because it reminds me that God is in all of that "nothingness and busyness"! Happy Thursday!!! Tomorrow, update on some of my LIST!

2010 LIST

Happy Monday to all! I spent the weekend thinking about "New Year Resolutions"...and I decided not to do the typical resolution thing because I already did some self evaluation back in August, so I will continue on with that...but I did come up with a 2010 LIST! I found this cute little idea over here on Edie's blog. Since I am turning 35 this month, I came up with a list of 35 things I would like to accomplish this year!

I think I will try to complete three to four items per month and I will chronicle it here on the blog to keep my momentum going!!! These are the things I am working on for the month of January...

  1. Join our public library and put it to good use!
  2. Set up a budget with my husband...which means, evaluate where our money is going!
  3. Get a "cleaning schedule" setup...I will spend this week getting things put away and implementing some tips from a few new books I got...share those later!
  4. For the kids - work on one "habit" a month from Charlotte Mason's "Laying down the Rails" - this month is OBEDIENCE!!!!

On a side note, I just want to say "thank you" to everyone who reads my ramblings here on the blog and gives me sweet comments! I began this blog almost a year ago as a way to journal the happenings of my day to day life (not expecting that anyone would really care what I have to say) but I have enjoyed finding so many new blog friends out there!!! Happy Monday!
